Explore Iceland’s Hidden Gems: Reykjanes Peninsula Private Tour

Discover Iceland’s incredible volcanoes and fascinating peninsula with your own private guide. On our Volcano Exploration & Reykjanes Peninsula Private Tour, you will have the chance to explore one of the most recent volcanic eruption sites in safety. Your guide will explain how these phenomenal events unfolded.

KRÝSUVÍK GEOTHERMAL AREA

Your guided tour will start with a pickup from your hotel, from here you will take the journey to Seltun geothermal area, the drive will take about 45 minutes. Once you are there you will be engulfed in the sulphuric smell of the geothermal area, you will explore wild springs, bubbling mud pots, all while marvelling at the intense colours of the hill sides, which are made from minerals and oxides pouring out of the bedrock.

FAGRADALSFJALL VOLCANO SITE

Next you will arrive at the steaming volcanic site of Fagradalsfjall. During your exploration of the site you will get up close to the once flowing red hot lava. The lava fields still remain smoking hot and still emit intense heat.

The formation of the 2021 volcanic crater Fagradalsfjall in the Geldingadalur Valley can be seen from a view point. An optional hike up a marked trail, will reveal the scale of this volcanic eruption. The hike on average takes 30-40 minutes to the view point. You will have plenty of time to take pictures and rest as needed.

Your guide will explain the geology of the area along with finding you a souvenir to take home from the lower lava fields that you will explore. The volcanic rocks in the area hold a beautiful secret that should not be missed.

LOCAL RESTAURANT

Once you have descended you will head for lunch at the local chic cafe. You can grab something simple as a refreshing juice or fill up on the local fish cuisine.

THE BRIDGE BETWEEN CONTINENTS

As you travel around the peninsula you will first visit ‘The bridge between continents‘ the bridge spans the dividing plates of North America and Eurasia. Iceland is the only place on the Mid-Atlantic ridge, that rises above the water line where you can touch both continents. You can see the land beneath the bridge dividing from north to south. You will have the chance to walk around and over the site in this incredible geological location.

REYKJANES LIGHTHOUSE

Next you will visit Reykjanes Lighthouse and the beautiful sea cliffs. In 1878 the original lighthouse Valanukur was completed and was rebuilt in 1907 due to unstable cliff faces. The cliffs have been formed from the 1800’s lava flows and continue to erode with the power of the ocean.

GUNNUHVER HOT SPRING

A short drive away is Gunnuhver Hot springs, where you will visit one of Iceland’s largest springs, a selection of the best mud pools and fumaroles, along with learning the story behind the haunted site of Gunnuhver. This geothermal site is one of the best examples in Iceland, it also has the remains of an early settlement where the folk would use the geothermal energy in raw form to cook, bathe and keep warm.

BRIMKETILL SEA POOLS

Last but not least is Brimketill rock pools, where the lava has been eroded to form two large pools. It’s not possible to bathe in the pools as the Atlantic is usually very fierce, the crashing waves in the area can leave you a little wet. It’s a magnificent sight to see in windy weather, you can see along the coast for miles on end as the lava meets the ocean, it’s possible to see seals in the area swimming through the kelps if you are lucky.

Perfect guided tour We were lucky to get a tour on short notice with Josip. His flexibility allowed us to have a great evening with a tour to the geysirs and Gullfoss waterfall. Even the road trip was entertaining while filled with interesting information and insights to icelandic life.

Iceland at its best! On Saturday evening, Josip spontaneously agreed to take us on a trip to the Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss waterfall. It was a very pleasant tour in a very well-maintained Mercedes van. During the ride, he entertained us with his knowledge of the sights and Icelandic customs.

Thomas is amazing! We hired Thomas to take us on a volcano hike. When he picked us up he suggested we switch gears due to the weather. We followed his lead and we are glad we did!

A day well spent learning about the geology, history, and Icelandic life We took a private Golden Circle tour with EV Travel and can't recommend them highly enough. Our tour was led by Adrian, who is throughly knowledgeable about the geology and history of the area, conveyed through his excellent narration. Of course, the scenery was spectacular! I especially like standing on the highlands overlooking the rift valley with its deep fissures tearing apart the land. I really enjoyed connecting with Adrian on our shared interests in geology and Viking history. Adrian is very friendly and conversational, and we learned some of his full and interesting life.

Highly recommended We went gletsjerhiking with Thomas and we absolutely loved it! He was very flexible so we started the day earlier and made an additional stop. I always say it makes such a difference if you have a good guide; and Thomas was definitely outstanding! Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very fun to spend the day with. I would definitely book another tour with Thomas if I’d be visiting Iceland again.

Perfect Reykjavík Tour! Thomas is a wonderful guide. He is very knowledgeable about the area and he shares this information in a friendly way that makes the day super fun. We enjoyed all of the sites that he took us to see and feel that we had the perfect balance of getting to see a lot of things in a short time, yet not feeling rushed through any of it. I feel he has a gift for really bringing the highlights to life at each spot on the tour.He provided a very comfortable Mercedes-Benz van It was very roomy and had comfortable, adjustable seats, I also appreciated that we were able to get out often, not sitting for a long period since we had just gotten off of a flight. Yet he was able to accommodate Our energy levels and mobility needs. I feel this tour is perfect because he is able to personalize it for each guest, depending on wants and needs.Additionally, we stopped at lunch for lunch at a great restaurant and Thomas was able to tell us more about the local food. I followed his recommendation for the lunch meal and was definitely not disappointed.I can’t wait to come back to Iceland and take another tour with Thomas. I highly recommend his service!

We had the absolute pleasure of touring with Thomas, and he was hands-down one of the best guides we’ve ever had. He struck the perfect balance of being incredibly knowledgeable, fun, and easygoing — bringing the history, culture and science to life while also making sure we were safe, relaxed and enjoying ourselves. Thomas was also wonderfully flexible and accommodating (even when we forgot our passports in our last hotel) adjusting the itinerary based on our interests and energy levels. It truly felt like a tailored experience, not just a scripted tour. His passion for the region, great sense of humor, and insider tips made every moment more meaningful — and more fun!! Highly, highly recommend touring with Thomas if you want a personalized and memorable experience — he’s great for all ages and adventure levels. We’re so grateful for the time we had with him!

Private Tour in Rjkevick Iceland with EVTravel. Private tour for 4 of us. EV Travel and Thomas Warner were recommended to us by a friend of ours in Youngstown, Ohio. He picked us up at the cruise port about 9:15 and we toured (pre planned) until 1:45. He honored my requests for a few bathroom breaks! At our request he dropped us off at a restaurant in Rjkevick instead of the Cruise terminal. Excellent tour! Saw several interesting things within the 4+ hours. Highly recommended
